Meet Mrs. Dorothy!

Not only is she a loving wife, mother & grandmother- but she's been a teacher for nearly 20 years in the private & public sectors of education. She's worked with ages ranging from 2 to 82, and even homeschooled her two sons while teaching public school.

Her passion for education is as strong as her love for the Lord. This Co-Op has been founded on the desire to serve the Lord and minister to other families through the skills that He has given her.

Mrs. Dorothy is a believer in finding where each of her students is truly at when it comes to a subject and reaching the heart as well as the brain. She has found the most success comes from analyzing where a student is truly at, nurturing their confidence in a fun way, and building up their skill through it all!

She cannot wait to get to know your family as you work together through the HMH Co-Op!

WHAT DOES HMH CO-OP OFFER?

LITTLES

5-7yrs

This will be a time with the younger kiddos to enjoy Read Alouds, and then fun 'Think Alouds'!

They'll have activities to work on with the family at home and enjoy video calls of up to 30 minutes with Mrs. Dorothy & their peers where they can build these foundational skills in a fun environment.

  • Classes meet two times a week, Tuesdays & Thursdays.

  • We'll be focusing on phonemic awareness through poems, stories and activities.

  • A bonus day of directed drawing, online read alouds, songs, etc... that can be done at home will be shared both weeks.

BEGINNING READERS

This is a time to work on building their reading ability & confidence!

There are two options offered here- the kiddos Getting Ready to Read and then the Beginning Readers. Ms. Dorothy will meet with each parent/kiddo to confirm which placement seems like the best fit for everyone!

Class will meet for up to 1 hour on Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays each week with Ms. Dorothy & their peers.

  • The focus will be on phonemic awareness through Sight Words and vocabulary.

  • They will work on some writing activities this month too!

INDEPENDENT READERS/WRITERS

Alternating book clubs & writer's workshops for our older kiddos- this is for all of the independent readers & writers (10/12ish+)

Books Clubs read through a chosen book and work in teams to dig in deeper to the reading material. Writer's Workshops allow the students to spend time creating stories, sharing with peer editing, and then working with Ms. Dorothy to fine-tune their writing.

Even if you're student isn't a great writer, or a huge fan of reading, or maybe doesn't even think they like writing/reading, this has been a GREAT opportunity to transform even the most adamant anti-writers/readers into top-notch scribes & literary scholars!

Class will meet for up to 1 hour on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays with Ms. Dorothy & their peers.
